The facility will serve as an operational maintenance center for the Pedralba de la Pradería-Taboadela stretch, a little over one hundred kilometers long. It will consist of an office building, a warehouse, a rolling stock workshop and slabs for the collection and treatment of turnouts and sleepers, with a bundle of standard gauge tracks connected to the current layout of the Madrid-Galicia high-speed line.

The action will improve the maintenance work on the Madrid-Galicia high-speed line, reinforcing the work of the La Hiniesta base in Zamora, and will promote the development of new auxiliary activities that will require the establishment of companies and the generation of employment in the zone, for the development of maintenance works, such as infrastructure techniques, electrification, civil protection and signage.

In the construction, the restoration of the slopes of the work is planned by spreading topsoil, among other environmental measures. The new base, which will be built by the consortium made up of Dragados and Tecsa, will have an area of ​​approximately ten hectares and partially takes advantage of the platform already built in the track assembly phase of the Pedraba-Taboadela section, already in service.

The office building, a one-story property with a useful area of ​​310 square meters, which will house offices, meeting and technical rooms, etc., has been included in this contract; the maintenance and warehouse building, which will be built using laminated steel porticos, a block masonry perimeter fence and a sheet metal roof; the rolling stock maintenance warehouse, rectangular in shape and 48 x 7.5 meters in area, which will have a standard-width access road and a longitudinal pit of 30 x 4.1 meters, with a depth of 1.5 meters . It will serve as a logistics and maintenance center for track machinery.

A five-track standard-gauge track yard is also planned, with connection to the current high-speed line. The platform is finished up to the sub ballast layer. Likewise, the ballast loading dock and the tracks are completed or in an advanced state; Pre-assembly slab for diversions, made of reinforced concrete, which will allow the pre-assembly of track devices in a future phase of operation; and the sleeper collection slab, attached to the previous one.
