The cost per hour of labor in construction in Luxembourg is almost triple the amount paid in Portugal in this professional area, according to the most recent data released by Eurostat, relating to 2023.
If, in the Grand Duchy, labor cost 34.7 euros per hour, in Portugal this value was set at 13.4 euros.
Unlike Luxembourg, the income earned in one hour of construction work in Portugal is below the average of 28.5 euros in the European Union (EU) and 31.9 euros in the euro zone.
Construction is the sector that pays the least per hour in Luxembourg
But, as can be seen in the Grand Duchy, Portugal has its cheapest workforce in construction compared to other sectors such as commerce (16.1 euros), industry (14.8 euros), services (17 .2 euros) and the non-business economy, excluding public administration (19.7 euros).
Both Luxembourg and Portugal follow the EU trend, where the cost of labor in construction (28.5 euros) is lower than that in commerce (31.6 euros), industry (32.2 euros), services ( 31.8 euros) and the non-business economy, excluding public administration. (32.4 euros).
In February, the Association of Civil Construction and Public Works Industries (AICCOPN) announced an agreement to review the sector’s collective contract providing for minimum remuneration between 820 and 1,350 euros and a meal allowance of 7.50 euros.
