The Chief Minister’s reply in the Legislative Assembly that the meeting with the UAE Consul General at Cliff House does not require central permission is in controversy. Union Minister Rajkumar Ranjan Singh stated in the Lok Sabha that the action was a violation of protocol. The Union Minister clarified this in response to a question from NK Premachandran MP.

During the period from 2016 to 2020, the Chief Minister said in the House that he met the UAE Consul General at his official residence, Cliff House, and that the meeting did not have central permission. But the Chief Minister’s reply was a violation of protocol and the permission of the Ministry of External Affairs is mandatory when meeting with representatives of foreign countries, the Union Minister said.

The Union Minister replied on July 29. He also stated that the Kerala government has not sought permission in this regard. This is how the controversy arose.
