The data presented in the 2022 Annual Report of the Port of Barcelona reflect sustained progress in rail traffic. On the one hand, in the last year, nearly 266,000 containers have entered or left the site by train, 16.7 percent more, and its share stands at 13.5 percent, two points below that reached in 2021. On the other hand, the transport of vehicles by this means has added 224,886 units in the last year, 20.6 percent more and the rail share stands at 44.7 percent, which is four points higher than that of 2021.

In the field of infrastructures, during 2022 progress has been made in new accesses. On the one hand, the Urban Master Plan for the Intermodal Logistics Terminal has been initially approved, the instrument by which the railway development of the southern area of ​​the port will be ordered, conceived as a 68-hectare node, with six terminals and which will form part of the of the Mediterranean Corridor. This plan also includes the reception and dispatch terminal parallel to the current course of the river, called Terminal Nou Llobregat.

Regarding operations, among the main milestones, in this report, the increase in services with TMZ, with the Monzn terminal in Huesca, those of Villafra and Miranda de Ebro and between Barcelona and the Lleida from Pla de Vilanoveta, among others. Of all of them, it is worth noting the increase in the traffic of refrigerated products.

As for vehicles, in 2022 the first direct service was launched to transport vehicles manufactured in Germany and distribute them in Spain and another direct car transport service, in standard gauge, in Schwertberg, in Austria.
