(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 7 – “We are going beyond direct democracy. We are creating a path that includes a broad, participatory debate and in-depth discussions. It ends with a vote of members, so objectively we are perfectly in line with the inspiring principle of a broad and effective democratic participation by citizens, in this case registered citizens but also non-members”. This was said by the president of the M5S Giuseppe Conte intercepted in the Chamber at the end of the meeting of 5S senators and deputies on the constituent assembly of the Movement, answering a question on Grillo’s doubts about the path. “We had a good discussion, as always in a joint assembly, with all the parliamentarians. Many intervened. We analyzed all the details, we explained them, we also described the various steps of this constituent process that excites us enormously, because no political party has ever carried out such an engaging, radical experiment of participatory and deliberative democracy” added Conte, concluding: “The members will decide what to discuss and can also question the role of the undersigned, of Conte. They can question the top structure, because otherwise it would not be a “refounding” process.
