BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has explained that the Indian team has changed a lot of captains in recent times.

Virat Kohli stepped down from India’s captaincy after last year’s T20 World Cup. After that, Rohit Sharma was appointed as the captain of the Indian team for all 3 formats – Test, ODI and T20.

1. Virat Kohli – Test series against South Africa
2. KL Rahul – ODI series against South Africa
3. Rohit Sharma (current permanent captain of Indian team)
4. Rishabh Pant – South African T20 Series
5. Hardik Pandya – Ireland T20 Series
6. Jasprit Bumrah – Edgbaston Test against England
7. Shikhar Dhawan – ODI series against West Indies

Even now, while the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is playing in the Asia Cup, before that, a completely different team led by KL Rahul is playing an ODI series against Zimbabwe. The bench strength of the Indian team is enough to play in 2 different series at the same time.

Speaking about the ongoing captaincy change, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian team for all formats. But players are rested to maintain their fitness without getting injured. So many players are given a chance in the rotation. Indian team won series in West Indies and England with young players. Ganguly said that there are 30 players in the Indian team who are fit to play at any time.
