The match between Corinthians and Grêmio on the night of last Thursday (25) was surrounded by controversies regarding the referee’s decisions made by Alex Gomes Stefano, with at least three complaints from the gaucho side.
Coach Renato Gaúcho, Vice Antonio Brum, and the Grêmio players complained about the penalty awarded to Corinthians, about a stamp by Yuri Alberto on Marchesín, and about the disallowed goal by Franco Cristaldo due to offside.
On this Friday (26), the CBF released the audio from the VAR’s analysis of the main plays in the match, including some that the Tricolor contested.
In the play that led to the penalty against Kannemann for a foul on Romero, after reviewing the video, Alex Gomes Stefano sees the Argentine defender preventing the Paraguayan forward from contesting the play.
Assistant VAR: “Possible penalty, pulling.”
VAR: “Wait and we will check.”
Assistant VAR: “Kannemann clearly holds the arm; we need to see if there is impact.”
VAR: “Opened check, okay, wait.”
Assistant VAR: “There is a pull by Kannemann on the player (from Corinthians) that blocks his run. Ball in play, keeps holding and lets go.”
VAR: “I will recommend a review for that.”
Assistant VAR: “Did you consider impact?”
VAR: “(Yes), the player was going for the contest.”
Assistant VAR: “He pulled back.”
VAR: “I suggest a review for a possible penalty. Kannemann pulls the forward’s arm; there is a clear hold that prevents the player from going for the ball.”
Referee: “Is this the best image? Is there another one?”
Assistant VAR: “Shows the micro (camera).”
VAR: “I will show an open shot to see that the ball was in play.”
Referee: “Perfect. Was the offside line checked?”
VAR: “It happens before the possible interference.”
Referee: “I agree. I see a pull by Kannemann preventing him from contesting the ball. I will go back to a penalty and no card.”
VAR: “Good decision.”
