Beijing: Action taken against 27 education officials over controversial drawings in Chinese school textbook

China’s primary education mathematics textbooks were published 10 years ago. It is used in elementary schools across China. It includes some maps. It does not look like Chinese children. The pictures have been ugly rather than pretty. One drawing has drawings of boys and girls pulling on their clothes, and a child has a tattoo on his leg. For the past 10 years there has been no controversy about these drawings in the book.

In this case, a teacher had published and criticized the drawings in the school textbooks on social media. The drawings went viral on social media as the images were criticized as cultural degradation and as American culture.

As a result, the Chinese government is now conducting an investigation and taking action to find the officials of the education department responsible for this. A total of 27 officers have been relieved of their duties, citing dereliction of duty and irresponsibility. The Chinese Ministry of Education said that they will no longer be involved in the design of textbooks.
