The inauguration of a school with the name ‘Gentil Duarte’, former leader of the FARC dissidents killed in 2022, has generated great controversy. The Ministry of National Education has issued a statement clarifying the situation.
In the statement, the Ministry of Education reiterates that to date no application has been received for the recognition and accreditation of an educational institution under the name “Gentil Duarte Environmental Agricultural Boarding School» in San Vicente del Caguán. Therefore, The building is not recognized as an official or unofficial educational institution under Colombian regulations.
It is emphasized that for the creation, construction and operation of an educational institution in Colombia, the procedures and requirements established by the Ministry of National Education must be followed.in accordance with the General Education Law and other relevant regulatory frameworks.

“This regulation applies to both official and unofficial educational establishments (private schools), and allows them to be included in the Single Directory of Educational Establishments – DUE, a system that consolidates the information of educational institutions at the national level and allows them access the different national programs such as School Feeding, the Everyone to Learn Program, the construction and improvement of infrastructure, the appointment of teaching directors and teachers, and provision, among other policies to strengthen education,” he added. MinEducation.
The Ministry also emphasizes that this infrastructure is not included in the construction, expansion or improvement projects of educational spaces planned by the National Government, and no public resources have been allocated for its execution.
Furthermore, emphasis is placed on that there is no teaching staff, rector or enrollment assigned to said school.
“The Ministry of Education rejects any action that links the educational sector with groups outside the law or illegal activities,” the Ministry of Education reiterated.
