Controversy Erupts as Nepali Prime Minister Claims Indian Businessman Tried to Make Him Prime Minister

KATHMANDU – Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Prasanda finds himself mired in controversy after asserting that an Indian businessman made repeated attempts to make him the Prime Minister of Nepal. The opposition has swiftly latched onto this revelation, intensifying the criticism against Prasanda.

During the launch event of a book centered around Sardar Pritam Singh, an Indian businessman residing in Nepal, Prime Minister Prasanda made the eyebrow-raising statement. He referred to Singh not only as a businessman but also as a servant who tirelessly tried to propel him into the role of Prime Minister.

In his pursuit of this objective, Singh allegedly engaged in multiple discussions with political leaders from Nepal in the Indian capital, New Delhi. The comments made by Prasanda have ignited a firestorm of controversy within Nepal.

Sharma Oli, the leader of Nepal’s principal opposition party – the Communist Party of Nepal, United Marxist-Leninist – wasted no time in demanding Prasanda’s resignation on account of his alleged attempts to unlawfully seize power in Nepal. Oli accused the Prime Minister of tarnishing the nation’s honor and insulting the country’s constitution.

Insisting on moral responsibility, Oli called for Prasanda to step down as Prime Minister. He warned that the opposition would launch an indefinite struggle if the Prime Minister failed to comply with their demands. The situation is further compounded by the fact that it remains unclear whether Prasanda ascended to the role of Prime Minister due to the alleged efforts by the Indian businessman.

These comments have given rise to numerous questions and fueled doubts regarding Prasanda’s position and his intentions. The controversy surrounding this issue shows no signs of subsiding anytime soon.
