Actress Nayanthara starrer ‘Annapoorani’ hit the theaters last month. It was recently translated into various languages including Hindi and released on the Netflix OTT platform. The film was removed from the Netflix site when there was strong opposition to the film in the northern states.
In this case, in the Naya Nagar police station in Thane district of Maharashtra, Sonda Nab Oruvar of Meera-Payant area complained that some scenes in the movie ‘Annapurani’ hurt Hindu religious beliefs. He also mentioned in the complaint that the film promotes ‘Love Jihad’.
In this regard, Nayanagar Police Station Officer said: In connection with the Annapurani film issue, 8 accused including actress Nayantara and producer have been booked under Indian Penal Code Sections 153-A (inciting communal enmity), 295-A (intentionally offending religious sentiments), 505 (2) ( He said that a case has been registered under the Crimes in Places of Worship).
It is noted that two cases have already been registered in Mumbai Police Station and Lokmanya Tilak Police Station regarding this issue.
