In a recent statement that has sparked severe criticism and heated debates, Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udayanidhi expressed his opinion that Sanathana (referring to Hinduism) should be eradicated similar to diseases like Dengue, Malaria, and Corona. His remarks have drawn condemnation from various individuals and political parties, particularly in northern states with a significant Hindu population.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly condemned Minister Udayanidhi’s comment, calling it disrespectful and offensive. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded that the Supreme Court take action against the criticism directed towards Sanathana.

BJP National President JP Natta, while campaigning for the upcoming Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections, questioned whether the controversial statements were part of a strategy outlined during an India Alliance meeting held in Mumbai. He raised concerns about an alleged plan to eliminate Sanathana through an unholy alliance and propagate religious hatred. Natta’s remarks have prompted further controversy.

Despite the outcry, no cases have been registered based on the complaint lodged at a police station in Delhi. However, senior advocate Sudhir Ojha has filed a case against Minister Udayanidhi in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur District Court, with a hearing scheduled for the 14th. Meanwhile, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram has expressed support for Minister Udayanidhi’s opinion, further highlighting political divisions.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma questioned the Congress party and stated that if they do not sever their alliance with the DMK, they will be viewed as anti-Hindus. Bihar BJP State President Samrat Chaudhary also criticized the opposition parties for their silence on the issue, questioning whether they share Udayanidhi’s views and demanding clarification.

Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, accused Minister Udayanidhi of attempting to disrupt religious harmony and win elections. He demanded an apology from Udayanidhi to the nation. In contrast, senior Congress leader KC Venugopal emphasized the importance of respecting all religions and maintaining a Samadharma society.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh questioned the silence of Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Khelat, regarding the controversial remarks. Singh called on alliance parties to apologize for their criticism of Sanathana, warning that failure to do so would not be forgiven by the country. The opposition DMK, by discussing the issue of Sanathana, is considered to have inadvertently provided the BJP with a political weapon in the upcoming elections.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how political parties and leaders will address and resolve the growing tension surrounding the issue of Hinduism and Minister Udayanidhi’s controversial commentary.
