Ariyalur student Lavanya’s suicide was not due to forced conversion, the National Child Welfare Commission said in a statement on Thursday.

Lavanya (17), daughter of Muruganantham from Vadugarpalayam, Ariyalur district, was a 12th class student staying at the hostel of Pure Heart High School near Thirukattupalli. In this case, after consuming the pesticide, she died last month without any treatment.

In this context, parties including the BJP have accused him of committing suicide by forcing a student to convert to school.

In a statement issued today by the National Commission for the Welfare of Children investigating the suicide,

There is no evidence of a proselytizing complaint in the Ariyalur student suicide case. Provide medical advice on mental health to the student’s parents and siblings.

Action should be taken against the school hostel which was operating without proper registration and the students should be transferred to other hostels. They have suggested that inquiries should be made into hotels operating in Tamil Nadu without proper permission.
