Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, and the Erasmus+ Morocco Office, this conclave, which continues until March 7 at the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), aims to promote opportunities for international mobility and cooperation between African countries and those of the MedNet network (Cyprus, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Macedonia and Turkey).

It also involves developing new project proposals linked to international mobility and exchanging best practices with the 33 member countries of the Erasmus+ programme.

Speaking at the opening of this meeting, the president of UM6P, Hicham El Habti, indicated that this conclave is intended to be an important step towards the development of university and research partnerships within the framework of Erasmus+.

This event provides an opportunity to explore networking opportunities, meet potential partners, share best practices and generate ideas for new projects of mutual interest, he continued, stressing the importance of student exchange programs as a valuable opportunity for personal development and academic success.

These programmes not only enable beneficiaries to acquire new skills, but also contribute to the development of future global leaders, he said, calling for belief in the richness of diversity and fostering an environment that transcends borders.

For her part, the director of the Erasmus+ Morocco National Office, Latifa Daadaoui, explained that the Erasmus+ Europe-Africa meeting, the first event of its kind organized outside Europe, aims to bring European universities closer to their African counterparts and to strengthen partnerships with Mednet countries, and also constitutes an ideal opportunity to consolidate cooperation between African countries.

The Erasmus+ Morocco National Office, she explained, offers students and staff of the establishments
Moroccan higher education mobility grants in Europe, dedicated to training and studies, and allows funding under the “Strengthening the capacities of higher education” component, particularly with regard to the digitalization of universities and the integration of students with specific needs.

As every year, the Erasmus+ Morocco National Office launches the excellence scholarship associated with the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters funded by the EU to promote excellence in training and research, notes Ms. Daadaoui.

For his part, Leonidas Papastergiou, Director of the Greek National Agency Erasmus+, coordinator of the event, noted that strengthening the international dimension of higher education is of crucial importance, especially in a constantly changing world.

He also called for better exploitation of the potential for collaboration between European and African universities, noting that this event allows for the establishment of partnerships, the sharing of experiences and the planning of a future of excellence and innovation in higher education.

As for the director of the Erasmus+ France-Education Formation Agency, Delphine Gassiot-Casalas, she considered that this event is an opportunity to consolidate links with African partners in order to give new momentum to this international dimension of Erasmus.

The choice of Morocco to host this event is relevant given the quality of the infrastructure put in place by the Kingdom for the development of education and training, she argued.

The European Union’s Erasmus+ (2021-2027) places a strong emphasis on social inclusion, the ecological and digital transitions and promoting youth participation in democratic life. Its budget is estimated at €26.2 billion, almost double the funding of the previous programme (2014-2020).
