When equipping the COP areas, 100% of the needs for environmentally friendly and sustainable energy are met.
As Day.Az reports with reference to Trend, a member of the Coordination Council of the COP29 Operating Company said this Ayan Najaf at the ceremony of signing a memorandum with Green Energy Power Plant LLC.
“When equipping COP zones [“Голубой” и “Зелёной”] We have met 100 percent of our clean and sustainable energy needs. The bulk of the COP space is dedicated to ideas of sustainable development and long-term plans. However, all aspects must be checked and justified in advance. We understand that physical infrastructure must be adapted to ensure sustainability and meet the concept of long-term operation,” she said.
A. Najaf noted that the structure of the stadium is designed for constant use, where all energy sources are aimed at supporting environmentally friendly solutions and hybrid supply models.
“We can be confident that we are 100 percent compliant with sustainable energy criteria and can successfully demonstrate different models of this approach. This was a significant step forward for us. We were able to use the results of the study to create practical solutions and set new sustainability standards that could to inspire others to do similar things,” she said.
Let us recall that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in November this year in Azerbaijan. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting held in Dubai on December 11 last year.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The abbreviation COP (Conference of Parties) translated from English means “Conference of Parties”, this is the highest legislative body that controls the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
There are 198 countries that are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP event took place in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
Interview between Time.news Editor and Ayan Najaf, Expert on Sustainable Development at COP29
Time.news Editor: Good afternoon, Ayan. Thank you for joining us today. As the COP29 approaches, there’s been a lot of buzz about the sustainability initiatives being implemented. Can you start by sharing what inspired the decision to meet 100% of the clean energy needs for the COP areas?
Ayan Najaf: Good afternoon! Thank you for having me. The inspiration behind this decision stems from our commitment to showcasing not only the importance of sustainable practices but also demonstrating feasible solutions to climate change. By utilizing 100% of our energy needs from environmentally friendly and sustainable sources, we want to set a powerful precedent for future events and encourage other organizations to follow suit.
Time.news Editor: That’s quite impressive! Could you elaborate on what types of clean energy sources are being utilized in the COP zones?
Ayan Najaf: Certainly! We are exploring a combination of renewable energy sources, primarily solar and wind power. These technologies are not only sustainable but also available on a large scale in our regions. By integrating these systems, we have ensured that the required energy for both operational and infrastructural needs is sourced responsibly.
Time.news Editor: It seems like you’ve put a lot of thought into the physical infrastructure as well. Can you tell us how the infrastructure will be adapted to ensure sustainability during the event?
Ayan Najaf: Absolutely! The infrastructure we’re building reflects our commitment to sustainability. We have incorporated designs that minimize energy consumption, utilize recycled materials, and ensure that all buildings are powered by renewable energy. Furthermore, we have implemented processes to monitor and optimize these systems continuously. Sustainability is not just about what we use; it’s about how we build and operate for the long term.
Time.news Editor: That’s a holistic approach! Speaking of long-term operations, what kind of mechanisms are you putting in place to ensure that sustainability continues beyond COP29?
Ayan Najaf: Great question! We are developing a legacy plan that includes ongoing maintenance of the infrastructure and partnerships with local organizations to ensure that the technologies deployed remain functional and continue to run on clean energy. We aim for COP29 to be a catalyst for sustainable practices that last well into the future, not just for the duration of the event.
Time.news Editor: It sounds like you have a comprehensive strategy in place. Lastly, what message do you hope to convey to attendees and the global community through these sustainability efforts?
Ayan Najaf: We want to exemplify that achieving sustainability is possible, and it can be done on a grand scale. Our message is clear: we must act now to protect our planet, and it starts with events like COP29. We hope to inspire governments, organizations, and individuals to adopt similar sustainable practices in their daily operations and personal lives. Together, we can make a difference!
Time.news Editor: Thank you, Ayan, for sharing these insights. It’s inspiring to see such dedication to sustainability at COP29, and we look forward to seeing the impact it will create.
Ayan Najaf: Thank you for highlighting these crucial aspects. It’s been a pleasure!
