This memorandum of understanding was signed at the Morocco Pavilion at COP28 by the Director General of DGM, Abdelfattah Sahibi, and the Director General of SODEXAM, Jean-Louis Molo.
Bilateral cooperation provided for in the agreement covers weather forecasting, climatology, meteorological monitoring and measurement network systems, information and communication systems, databases, institutional capacity building and technology transfer.
In a statement to MAP on this occasion, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, indicated that this memorandum of understanding will promote the sharing with Côte d’Ivoire of successful experiences in Morocco in the field of weather management and forecasting, as well as the “Ghait” program for the production of artificial rain and flood forecasting centers for the preservation of citizens’ lives.
For his part, the Ivorian Minister of Environment, Sustainability and Ecological Transition, Jacques Assahore Konan, indicated that this agreement will allow his country to take advantage of the experience, equipment and technologies that Morocco has in the field of weather forecasting to deal with the effects of climate change.
COP28, which will be held in Dubai from November 30 to December 12, aims to unite global efforts and identify opportunities for cooperation to find solutions to the challenges of climate change.
The Conference is marked by the presentation of the first Global Stocktake to assess progress in implementing the Paris Agreement’s climate action plans to combat global warming. It is also an opportunity to promote climate action to ensure a sustainable future.
