The COP Presidency Troika previously announced an action plan to combat climate change, and this action plan is in line with the commitments of Azerbaijan and its COP29 Presidency.
As reported by Day.Az, this was stated by the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Simon Still during a virtual speech at the presentation of the COP29 Presidency Action Plan.
According to him, the catastrophic environmental and climate situation affects the economies of all countries in the world and the lives of people.
“All countries need to understand that they need to invest more in climate protection, which will strengthen their economies,” Still said.
According to him, the World Bank should play an important role in climate protection actions.
The Executive Secretary of the Framework Convention recalled that only 15 countries have a national adaptation plan and this is a very low figure. In his opinion, more active actions are needed in this direction.
“We need to increase the amount of funding allocated to prevent climate problems. COP29 gives us great hope in this regard. I believe that we will unite our efforts on the tasks ahead,” Still said.
He noted that the events of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) are the only chance to increase resilience to climate change.
