COP29 will be a broad platform for action to accelerate the green energy transition.
As Day.Az reported on Monday with reference to Trend, COP29 General Director Elnur Soltanov said this in his speech during the first COP29 press conference.
“We are confident that new opportunities will emerge in terms of fulfilling Azerbaijan’s obligations in this direction. Azerbaijan’s role will not be limited only to the mandate of the host of the event, and our country will also lead the negotiations at the conference. In this sense, Baku will be in the center of attention of the whole world in November The reality is that the funds allocated in the world to solve climate change problems are not enough. The positions of all states and negotiating groups are being studied,” Soltanov said.
It should be noted that on April 15, the first press conference was held at the COP29 General Staff in connection with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in November 2024 in Azerbaijan. Speakers at the event were COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 Chief Negotiator Yalchin Rafiev, COP29 General Director Elnur Soltanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of the COP29 operating company Narmin Dzharchalova, UN High-Level Climate Leader Nigar Arpadarai, COP29 Youth Climate Advocate Azerbaijan Leyla Hasanova.
