The road to the Copa del Rey final is almost over, getting there is a two distance classics. The draw for the semifinals of the Cup held this Monday at noon in the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas has left the most desired crossing: the Barça against him Real Madrid.
The penultimate round of the competition will be played at double match, there will be no double value for the goals on the opposite field and in the event of a tie on goals in both games, it will go to extra time regardless of whether they were scored on the opposite field or at home. The first, one Madrid – Barcelona at the Bernabéu between February 28 and March 2. The second leg will be played at the Spotify Camp Nou between April 4 and 6.
Barça, the team that has won the competition the most times with 31 titlesreached the semi-finals after eliminating Intercity, Ceuta and Real Sociedad, while Madrid got rid of Cacereño – the team that eliminated Girona from the Cup -, Villarreal and Atlético de Madrid.
The two teams will replay a duel of maximum rivalry which, in this competition, with their different denominations throughout history, have faced each other on twenty previous occasions, seven of them in the final.
The precedents
The last time they met in the semi-finals was in the 2018-19 season with a draw at Camp Nou in the first leg (1-1) and Barça’s victory at the Bernabéu in the second leg (0-3). Barça lost the final against Valencia, who were proclaimed champions.
This will be the eighth time the two teams have met in the semifinals, with one favorable balance for the whiteswho have gone through the playoffs four times to Barça’s three.
Osasuna – Athletic in the other semi-final
The other finalist will come from the duel between Osasuna, which has never won the title and has only reached the final once, in 2005; and the Athletic Club of Bilbao, which has 23 trophies on its record. The first leg will be played in El Sadar and the return leg in San Mamés.
