Copasir, we leave again. Fico and Casellati stop Salvini and reopen the games

A letter from the Presidents of the Chamber and Senate Roberto Fico and Elisabetta Casellati explains that the resignation of the Lega Nord members from Copasir, the 007 control committee, is not valid. The committee can meet and elect the new president with the current composition. But the road to Urso (FdI) is not yet downhill

Two weeks. This is how long the new, ephemeral truce of the political forces on Copasir, the parliamentary control committee of the Secret Service, lasted. On May 20, after months of tug-of-war with the Brothers of Italy for the presidency, the League dismissed the two members of the committee: the deputy and president Raffaele Volpi, and the senator Paolo Arrigoni. Those resignations, the presidents of the Chamber and Senate explain today in a letter Roberto I am ed Elisabetta Casellati, they have no value.

“In the absence of an indication from you, in prompt times, of a shortlist of names to proceed with the replacement of Deputy Volpi and Senator Arrigoni, the resignations of the latter as members of the Committee remain ineffective and cannot constitute an impediment to convocation of the body for the purpose of electing the new president “, reads the letter addressed to the group leaders of the Chamber and Senate Riccardo Molinari e Maximilian Romeo.

With or without the two resigning leaguers, the committee can meet to elect a new president, Fico and Casellati warned. Also because, although it could, the League has not indicated two new candidates to replace the outgoing parliamentarians. A resounding stop to the maneuver of Matteo Salvini. With the resignation of Volpi and Arrigoni, the League secretary had tried to put FdI on the ropes.

In fact, law 124 of 2007 assigns not only the presidency but also half of the members of Copasir to the opposition (5 out of 10). By withdrawing the two leaguers, Salvini had asked for the resignation of the entire committee to be able to appoint a new one, leaving five members to the party of Giorgia Meloni. An obvious provocation: none of the other parties is in fact willing to concede so much to a political force that, in Parliament, weighs 4% of the seats.

Today the presidents of the House and Senate explain how such a solution would lead to “a clear over-dimensioning of the opposition representation” and ask for a political solution to the stalemate on the presidency. The road, however, remains uphill.

In the letter, effectively revoking the resignations of Volpi and Arrigoni, Fico and Casellati authorize the convening of Copasir to elect the president. A convocation that, as the law dictates, should start from the vice president in office adolph bear, the only candidate from Meloni to succeed Volpi.

Salvini and the whole League have vetoed his name, raising doubts about an old company that had business relations with the Iranian Republic, Italy World Service Srl. Numbers in hand, the road to the election of the senator to the presidency is still full of obstacles. He would have the force man on his side Elio Vito, resigned in protest and now ready to return to his post, but would find himself against the two votes of the leaguers.

Another way out consists in the dissolution of the committee by Fico and Casellati. A hypothesis to be discarded for now, are leaked by the respective teams. It has happened in exceptional cases in Italian parliamentary history and never for Copasir, a commission that is particularly sensitive to the issues it deals with.

In the absence of “general agreements between the political forces”, the stalemate is destined to continue. With all due respect to the many, delicate dossiers left to gather dust in Palazzo San Macuto, from the murder of the ambassador Luca Attanasio and the carabiniere of the escort Vittorio Iacovacci in Congo up to the crisis in Libya and the cybersecurity emergency.

One of these is at the center of new developments in these hours. That is the internal investigation of the Dis requested by the committee to clarify the meeting between Matteo Renzi and 007 Marco Mancini in a motorway restaurant, last December, in the middle of the nomination game. After having had a confrontation with the leaders of Italian intelligence, Mancini is in fact ready to present his resignation, reports the Corriere della Sera.
