FSpending several hundred euros for a piece of ABS plastic with plastic wheels is difficult for the garden lover. But cordless mowers are simply superior to those with a cable in terms of handling. So if you only want to keep a small or medium-sized garden short, you can use a battery-powered mower. The latter makes the ensemble expensive, one consolation is their possible use in other devices. The Bli battery from Husqvarna, for example, also fits in hedge trimmers, leaf blowers or pole pruners. Whether Bosch, Gardena, Alko or Stihl, multiple use has become the norm in the green sector.
The most widespread use is probably in the lawn mower, this time the Husqvarna LC 142 i appeared as a dashing guest on the straws made available to the editors. The plastic case isn’t particularly sexy, but it’s solid enough, which is probably what matters. We hope that the two simple-looking noses that hold the 50-litre grass collector will last forever, they passed the test without complaint. The orange and black painted mower has convinced us all round. It is easy to guide with the sturdy handle. Starting with a depressible bail is easy and holding it in this position while mowing is not cramping.
The handle has a pleasantly soft coating, but the same coating was torn on the test device, so it may not be resistant to carelessness. The mower weighs 17 kilograms, which is a good mix of handiness and plenty of support. The cutting height adjustment allows seven levels and is done with one hand. The Husqvarna performs its docking task powerfully and relatively quietly, although it is still so loud that it should rest like its neighbors on Sundays. If you want to mow almost noiselessly, you can use the robot.
Collection, mulching or rear discharge are available, all of which work well. Grass stubbornly accumulates on the black cover flap at the rear alone, which is fiddly to remove. On the other hand, the flexible catch basket can also be easily emptied thanks to a well thought-out loop.
If the decision is made in favor of the 142 i, it becomes almost as confusing as in mobile phone tariffs. The basic device is always the same. But the lithium-ion battery that snaps neatly into place in the center can be a Bli 20 with 4 Ah or a Bli 30 with 7.7 Ah. Depending on the size of the lawn and the desire to charge, the capacity needs to be considered. The price difference is significant, 300 euros are sometimes called for the larger battery alone. According to Husqvarna, the battery can be charged up to 600 times. There are also different chargers, a slower one for 55 euros and a fast one for 200 euros that we used. It was defective at first, and the replacement device did indeed load amazingly quickly. Normally, the standard model is sufficient between Saturday and Saturday. So it is possible to invest 500 or 1000 euros for the LC 142 i in a set. The output hurts once, the mowing afterwards is always a pleasure.
