Liverpool FC struggled after Manchester City’s win at lunchtime, but Kellerkind defeated Burnley 3-1 after a setback shortly before half-time.
It was initially impossible to guess at Anfield that both opponents came from different ends of the table – and it stayed that way for quite a while. Burnley ran high against the Reds and disrupted their attacking play in almost every phase. Coach Vincent Kompany’s team performed with a lot of energy.
The cellar child actually had the first chance in a balanced first half: Amdouni ran over van Dijk in the penalty area, but then Kelleher, replacing the sick Alisson, came out in time (10th). Liverpool defended themselves with long-range shots. This was also due to the fact that the Reds were hardly allowed to break through due to the strong Burnley defense.
Corners break the spell
Like Manchester City, who presented in the lunchtime game, LFC needed a standard. Keeper Trafford misjudged a corner and Diogo Jota headed in behind him (31′). But the guests were also able to do that – and Kelleher didn’t even have to misjudge: O’Shea scored the equalizer very well after a corner in added time (45th + 1).

In the second half, Klopp’s team appeared more concentrated and dominant. It was mostly one way. The Reds also knew how to improve their performance immediately: Luis Diaz headed substitute Elliott’s cross at the first post (52′).
Fofana misses twice
Meanwhile, Burnley were no longer able to stand up to the leaders. The first round obviously took energy. Liverpool managed actively – but suddenly became negligent after a good hour. After losing the ball in his own penalty area, ex-Union striker Fofana had two great chances in front of Kelleher. He missed both times (64th, 67th).
Suddenly it was going back and forth wildly, with a quarter of an hour to go the game was pretty open.
