Almost 1,000 new infections more than on Monday were reported by AGES on Tuesday. The number of new infections rose from 15,717 to 16,685, the fourth highest daily value since the pandemic began. Twenty people died of the corona virus within the past 24 hours.
The occupancy of the intensive care units fell to below 200 on Tuesday, the number fell by 15 to 197 patients. On the other hand, the number of patients in normal wards is on the rise. There, 1,012 and thus 93 more sick people have to be cared for than the day before.
There has been a nine percent increase in patients since last week. Carinthia, for example, recorded significant growth with a plus of 26 percent within a week, and Lower Austria with a plus of 17 percent.
The 16,685 corona infections within 24 hours also cause the seven-day average to rise above 16,000. It was already 16,321 on Tuesday. The seven-day incidence rose to 1,279 cases per 100,000 population. On Tuesday there were 147,920 confirmed active cases in Austria, 6,539 more than the day before.
The current figures for Austria (as of January 18, 2022, 9:30 a.m.): 16,685 new infections. 1,475,991 confirmed cases. 147,920 active cases. 1,314,129 recovered. 13,942 deaths. 1,012 hospitalized, 197 of them in intensive care.
