Multinational corporations operating in China have suspended operations due to the re-imposed curfew.
Millions of people across the country are facing these restrictions. Areas restricted include Jilin Province and Shenzhen City.
These restrictions are imposed because of the increasing incidence of corona infection in China.
Companies such as Toyota, Volkswagen, and Foxconn, which distributes products to Apple, have been affected by these restrictions. Concerns have been raised that the main supply chain could be affected by these restrictions.
A maximum of more than 5,000 people were confirmed infected in China last Tuesday. Most of these infections were reported in the Jill area.
About 24 million people living in China’s northeastern province have been facing government restrictions since last Monday.
After a full curfew was initially imposed in Huan and Hebei provinces, an entire province is now under curfew.
People living in the Jill area have been banned from going outside. Also those who want to leave the province should apply to the police for permission.
Bus traffic in the Shen Shen region of southern China was halted after a five-day curfew imposed on more than 12 million people. Tunnel services were closed.
The curfew came into effect after a curfew was imposed in Shenzhen, a city of more than 12 million people in China.
Companies in restricted areas are advising their employees to work from home.
Only employees of companies with essential needs such as online food delivery service can come to work.
Foscon, the maker of iPhones for Apple, has stopped working in Shenzhen.
However, the company said it was trying to fix this with companies in other parts of China.
German carmaker Volkswagen has suspended its operations in Changchun.
Leading car maker Toyota has announced that it will close its plant in Chongqing, Jilin Province, indefinitely.
The decision was made in the interest of the safety of employees and customers. German carmaker Volkswagen has closed its plant in the Changchun area. Production of Volkswagen and Audi car parts has thus been affected and therefore the company is expected to open on Thursday.
China has been reducing the number of infections through its aggressive corona control policy.
However the now rapidly spreading Omigron strain poses a major challenge to the Chinese government.
