According to the public prosecutor’s office, a six-figure sum is involved. A Göttingen lawyer is said to have embezzled these from Corona donations.

Göttingen – A 65-year-old lawyer from Göttingen, who was most recently in Mexico, is in custody on charges of breach of trust. According to the Göttingen public prosecutor’s office, the man was deported from Mexico and arrested at Frankfurt Airport, according to a statement from the authority.

Lawyer from Göttingen in custody: Donations for the “Corona Committee Foundation”

The man is accused of committing acts of breach of trust as managing director of the “Corona Committee Foundation”, which was founded in mid-2020. The shareholders solicited donations from private individuals to finance the work of the “committee”.

Five bank accounts were opened for the company. Substantial payments were subsequently received. The investigation by the Göttingen public prosecutor’s office revealed that the accused had a 53-year-old co-accused make a payment of 200,000 euros to his wife in 20 transactions of 10,000 euros each in November 2020. In the following period he is said to have completely used up the money together with her.

In May 2021, the accused is said to have transferred 500,000 euros to his private account and used this amount of money privately together with his wife, according to the Göttingen prosecutor’s investigators.
