Corona repeat shot now also without an appointment in Leiden

by time news

As of Saturday 5 November, anyone aged 12 and older can get a repeat vaccination against corona at the GGD Hollands Midden in Leiden vaccination location without an appointment. This has been possible since October 31 at the GGD injection locations in Gouda and Alphen aan den Rijn. GGD Hollands Midden has started injections without an appointment in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity to get the repeat injection as easily as possible.

You can get a repeat shot after you have completed the basic series. Even if you have already had a repeat injection, you can now get it again. This is possible from three months after the last jab or corona infection. Take a valid ID with you to the injection location and check the current opening times before departure at www.ggdhm.nl/coronavaccinatie. There you will also find more information about the basic series and the repeat injection.

The basic series includes: 2 shots with an mRNA vaccine (such as Moderna and BioNTech/Pfizer) or AstraZeneca, 1 shot with the Janssen vaccine or 1 vaccination if you already had corona before the first shot. You can receive the booster shot 3 months after the last vaccination or corona infection.

Possible printer
Due to the free entry, it can be busier at the injection locations. Take into account a possible waiting time. Would you rather make an appointment? Then go to www.planjeprik.nl or call 0800 – 7070.

Upgrading protection
For the repeat shot, new mRNA vaccines are used that protect against more variants of the coronavirus, including the omikron variant. The repeat shot gives the immune system a boost and thus restores protection against the coronavirus. That’s especially important for people over 60 and others who receive an annual flu shot invitation. They run a higher risk of becoming seriously ill from corona because their immune system works less well. A repeat shot is also recommended for healthcare workers; to protect themselves and the vulnerable they care for.

A repeat shot is also useful for those who do not belong to these groups. The repeat shot reduces the chance of infecting others and of long-term complaints after a corona infection. Moreover, the more people get the repeat shot, the fewer people get sick. This prevents healthcare from becoming too busy and helps to keep society open.
