Number of first vaccinations declining

The pace of vaccination in Germany has continued to slow down. According to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Monday, around 242,000 corona vaccinations were injected at the weekend. The previous weekend there had been around 392,000, two before even more than 600,000.

Just under 28,900 people received an initial vaccination on Saturday and Sunday – on the weekend of 15./16. There were around 76,400 on January 1st, and around 50,200 the weekend after that. The goal set by the government of vaccinating 80 percent of the population against Corona at least once by the end of January should therefore clearly be missed according to the reported figures – even despite possible late reports. According to the statistics, up to and including Sunday, 75.8 percent of people had received at least one vaccination.

The federal government had already had to postpone its target of 80 percent first-time vaccinations. Originally, she wanted to reach this quota by January 7th.

According to the RKI, 61.5 million people (74 percent) have complete basic protection with the second syringe that is usually necessary. At least 43.9 million people (52.8 percent) also received a booster shot.

The RKI has been pointing out for a long time that the figures shown are to be understood as minimum vaccination rates. A hundred percent coverage by the reporting system cannot be achieved. The RKI assumes that the actual vaccination rate is up to five percentage points higher than indicated on the dashboard.

According to the statistics, 24.2 percent are not vaccinated, a total of 20.2 million people. However, they also include four million children aged up to four years for whom no approved vaccine is yet available.
