From the 11th of next month to April 30th of next year, vaccinations against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) will be administered to the elderly aged 75 and older. Those classified as “high-risk groups” by the authorities, such as the elderly aged 65 and older, immunocompromised people aged 5 months and older, and those hospitalized or admitted to facilities vulnerable to infection, are eligible for free vaccination. The general public who are not in the high-risk group can be vaccinated at frontline medical institutions for a fee using vaccines scheduled to be distributed to the private sector.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency announced the ‘2024-2025 Seasonal COVID-19 Vaccination Implementation Plan’ containing these contents after deliberation by the Vaccination Expert Committee on the 13th. According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, vaccinations for those aged 75 and older will begin on October 11, for those aged 70-74 on the 15th, and for those aged 65-69 on the 18th. Those with weakened immune systems and those hospitalized or admitted to facilities vulnerable to infection can be vaccinated starting on the 11th of next month, regardless of age.

This vaccination will use 7.55 million doses of the JN.1 vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna, Novavax), a new vaccine that is effective against recently prevalent variants.
