A high-level meeting chaired by Health Minister Mansukh Mandavya will be convened this afternoon to review the Kovid situation and norms in the southern states. The meeting is online. Health ministers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Telangana and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands will attend the meeting, ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Sujeet Singh, Director, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), said that the BA2 sub variant of Omicron is now more popular in India.

Health Minister Veena George had said yesterday that the Omicron variety is spreading in Kerala. The minister said that 94 per cent of the samples tested so far contained omicon and six per cent delta.

The omicron variant affected about 80 percent of the foreigners confirmed by Kovid. Veena George said the Kovid cases are likely to rise further and the next three weeks will be crucial in the current situation.

In Kerala, Kovid confirmed 51,739 people yesterday. This brings the total number of patients in treatment to 3,09,489. 11 deaths were reported. This brings the total death toll in the state to 52,434.
