Coronavirus updates on Thursday 25 November

The super green pass approved yesterday, Wednesday 24 November, by the Council of Ministers will be in force from 6 December: there will be a double regime, which distinguishes between those who have been vaccinated or cured and those who have not been vaccinated and use tampons. A reinforced pass will be required for sporting events, indoor restaurants, parties and discos. To get on buses and subways you will need a swab, without a vaccine. It will be a normal Christmas, commented Prime Minister Mario Draghi. Meanwhile, the approval of the Pfizer vaccine for children at reduced doses is expected between today and tomorrow. Europe under the siege of the fourth wave: in France and Germany a boom in infections among children and in Slovakia, after Austria, the lockdown returned. In Germany, the dead are now over 100,000.

10 am – In South Tyrol worsening data, risk of yellow zone from Monday

The Gimbe Foundation in its weekly monitoring, notes that in the week from 17 to 23 November, in South Tyrol, there is a deteriorating performance for currently positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants (872) and an increase in new cases is highlighted (10% ) compared to the previous week. There were 442 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last week. The beds in the medical area are above saturation threshold – the monitoring continues – (16%) while the beds in intensive care are below saturation threshold (8%) occupied by Covid-19 patients. In the Province of Trento, again in the week from 17 to 23 November, Gimbe notes, there is a deteriorating performance for currently positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants (218) and there is an increase in new cases (54.4%) compared to the previous week which, now, are 136 per 100,000 inhabitants. Given the 15-day time advantage enjoyed by the virus, it is appropriate that the measures come into force in all regions – the report reads -, because the employment thresholds in the medical area and in intensive care to reach the orange zone, or even red, are so high that they risk paralyzing hospital care for non-Covid patients and increasing mortality for Covid patients.

5.50 am – Japan, 5 cases in Tokyo. The Delta towards self-extinction In Tokyo, only 5 new cases of Covid reported in the last 24 hours: the best figure since the beginning of the year. And according to a study by the National Institute of Genetics of Japan, the Delta variant of the coronavirus seems to be heading towards self-extinction: the cause is the very fast replication of the variant, which would have compromised the ability of the virus to self-correct (the coronavirus would have thus accumulated errors in the nsp14 protein). For weeks, the Delta variant infections in Japan have been less than 200.
