Covid cases worldwide exceed 133 million according to data released by Johns Hopkins University, while confirmed deaths exceed 2.8 million since the start of the pandemic. 8.30 – Palermo red zone until 22 April
The red zone for the entire province of Palermo will remain in force until 22 April. The ordinance, signed by the president of the Sicilian Region, Nello Musumeci, in consideration of the sudden evolution of the infections and spread of the Covid variants, follows by a few days the one that applied it only in Palermo until April 14. Now the entire metropolitan city is involved in the measure, including, therefore, the capital. Sicily aims to become a Covid-free island for tourism, but for now the goal seems far away.
8.14 am – India, new case record
India continues to record record numbers of new Covid infections, with 145,384 people testing positive in the last 24 hours. the fifth time that 100 thousand daily infections are exceeded, with the total number of infected persons having risen to 13.2 million. There are 168,436 deaths, 794 in the last 24 hours. A new variant in India has caused infections to increase when herd immunity seemed to have been reached.
6.00 am – In one year of Covid controlled 37.6 million people
There are 37,693,205 people checked from 10 March 2020 to 16 March 2021 as part of the checks on the coronavirus containment measures, i.e. over half of the inhabitants in Italy. what emerges from the data contained in the police report and published on the occasion of the 169th anniversary of the foundation. There are 497,032 persons sanctioned and 116,428 those for whom proceedings were carried out on the basis of the former article 650, 5,688 persons reported for false declarations to public officials and 3,990 positives reported for violation of the quarantine. There were 9,609,401 commercial establishments controlled, 18,900 holders of sanctioned businesses, 2,621 were reported (pursuant to art. 650) while 3,790 businesses are subject to provisional closure and 1,924 those closed.
