With 47 abstentions, Correismo saves Wilman Terán and Maribel Barreno from censure in the National Assembly

At 10:29 p.m., the President of the Legislature, Henry Kronfle, closed the debate after 16 interventions and asked the secretary to take a vote on the motion presented by the interpellant assemblyman, Jorge Peñafiel.

135 members of the Assembly were present to vote, out of a total of 137. There were 88 affirmative votes and 47 abstentions. At least a quarter of the Plenary was required to vote affirmatively, that is, 92 votes to censure the former officials.

Terán began his speech by denouncing that he has not had access to his file to present his defense. He also said that he has been living “a via crucis” since he was arrested on December 13, 2024 in Quito.

She then presented images of chats with the State Attorney General, Diana Salazar. She attacked the official and stated that the dismissal of the judge of the National Court of Justice, Walter Macías, is not a crime.

According to Terán, former judge Macías “has been protected by the Prosecutor’s Office,” which is why he has not been prosecuted in the Metástasis case, in which he is named. He also named a series of cases in which the former magistrate is named, but not investigated.

The former president of the Judicial Council showed chats from May 11, 2023 with prosecutor Diana Salazar. In the conversations, it is read that she claims for the dismissal of Macías and questions the decision of the Judiciary./El Expreso
