“Corriedale” Crossover Trailer Unleashes Soap Drama as ITV Launches New ‘Soap Power Hour’

A new trailer for the highly anticipated crossover event, “Corriedale,” has been released, promising a collision of storylines and characters from long-running British soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale. The special episode is slated to air on Monday, January 5, marking the launch of ITV’s revamped “soap power hour” schedule.

The ambitious project, conceived by the producers, scriptwriters, and production teams of both shows, aims to ingeniously link the two distinct universes before characters return to their respective homes in Manchester and Yorkshire. This strategic move heralds a new era of nightly soap opera viewing for dedicated fans.

Catastrophic Collision Teased in New Trailer

The newly released 30-second trailer, unveiled exclusively on Monday, December 15, during ITV’s The Big Quiz, offers a glimpse into the unfolding drama. The preview centers around a devastating multi-vehicle pile-up, hinting at widespread chaos and potential peril for numerous characters.

According to a network release, the crossover will feature a wealth of familiar faces caught in the aftermath. Confirmed participants from Coronation Street include Kit Green, James Bailey, Asha Alahan, Carla Connor, and Shona Platt, joining previously announced stars David Platt and Tracy Barlow. Emmerdale residents involved in the unfolding events are Cain Dingle, Sarah Sugden, Charity Dingle, Jacob Gallagher, Robert Sugden, and Joe Tate, alongside Aaron Dingle and Lisa Swain.

First Responders and Emotional Turmoil

In the immediate aftermath of the crash, the trailer depicts Kit Green taking charge of the situation, while a visibly distressed Carla Connor attempts to provide comfort to an unseen individual. Injured characters Shona and David Platt receive roadside medical attention from Emmerdale paramedic Jacob Gallagher, while Coronation Street’s trainee paramedic Asha Alahan works alongside Cain Dingle to assist other casualties.

The drama extends beyond physical injuries, with both soaps featuring pregnant women directly impacted by the events. A particularly poignant scene shows Charity Dingle tending to a screaming Shona within the confines of Hotton General Hospital. Asha is also shown coming face-to-face with Cain during the unfolding crisis.

Search for the Missing and Fan Engagement

As the trailer nears its conclusion, Kevin and Abi Webster are shown desperately searching for Debbie at the crash site. Simultaneously, a frantic Robert Sugden cries out for Aaron in the darkness, accompanied by Joe Tate.

ITV is further engaging viewers by offering a unique opportunity to influence the crossover narrative. Producers are inviting the audience to vote for which two characters – one from each soap – they would like to see interact in a dedicated scene. The poll, scheduled to open next year, will offer viewers a choice between Emma Atkins (Emmerdale’s Charity Dingle) and Alison King (Coronation Street’s Carla Connor), James Hooton (Emmerdale’s Sam Dingle) and Andy, Nicola Wheeler (Emmerdale’s Nicola King) and David Neilson (Coronation Street’s Roy Cropper), or Mike Parr (Emmerdale’s Ross Barton) and Kate Ford (Coronation Street’s Tracy Barlow). These interactions were filmed last month in anticipation of the fan vote.

New Scheduling and Streaming Strategy

The hour-long “Corriedale” episode will deviate from ITV’s usual streaming practices, not being released on ITVX earlier in the day. Instead, half-hour episodes of both Emmerdale (7pm) and Coronation Street (7:30pm) will air on ITV, with those episodes then becoming available on ITVX at 7am that morning.

This special event is designed to celebrate the enduring popularity of the soap genre and to establish ITV’s new “soap power hour” – a nightly commitment to delivering half-hour installments of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale each weeknight.
