Corruption case; Aung San Suu Kyi sentenced to five years in prison

by time news

Former Myanmar foreign minister and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced by a Myanmar court to five years in prison on corruption charges. The lawsuit was probably funded by US $ 60,000 and gold.

A Myanmar court has ruled in favor of the first of 11 corruption cases against Suu Kyi. The maximum sentence in each case is 15 years. The media is also barred from covering court hearings on the case. A Myanmar court has also barred Suu Kyi’s lawyers from speaking to the media.

Suu Kyi’s government lost power in a military coup in February last year. Aung San Suu Kyi was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison on charges including anti-military activities, violating Kovid standards and violating telecommunications laws. Suu Kyi, 76, is currently under house arrest.
