Cortisone preparations are often used in rheumatic diseases. However, they should only be taken for a short period of time, the side effect profile of the drugs is too bad. Often, however, low doses are sufficient to alleviate the symptoms of the disease. However, there has been little research into whether patients can take them over a longer period of time without risk. Scientists and doctors at the Berlin Charité are now trying to close this gap.
