In the days prior to May 1, the call by President Rodrigo Chaves to vote in favor of the re-election of Rodrigo Arias as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Legislative Assembly was publicly announced. The same Chaves who set up his campaign and accumulated electoral support based on anti-PLN sentiment –and specifically anti Figueres- thus gave his support to a figure who represents the hard leadership of the PLN such as Rodrigo Arias.

This movement in our case does not surprise us, in the past the PAC did the same by maintaining an agreement with Carlos Ricardo Benavides in the Assembly -another representative of Arismo-, from those agreements they managed to apply the disastrous tax reform of 2018, the anti-law strikes and the public employment law among other harsh attacks whose consequences we continue to suffer.
Parties and candidates that supposedly represented the desire for change quickly aligned themselves with the same as always, those of the old bipartisanship (PUSC-PLN) who in one way or another continue to occupy the main positions and guide the main political decisions of the country to preserve the interests of big capital. In the form it seems that with the last three elections many things have changed, although in reality everything is designed so that nothing changes and it is the same people who govern us.
The most recent agreement between Chaves and Arias already has a public agenda of attacks against the working class, of which the project of 4X3 shifts (12 hours for four working days) is their main bet. For many years the old bipartisan parties have wanted to eliminate the conquest of an 8-hour daytime workday, with this agreement they even managed to approve a fast track to discuss and vote on this harsh attack on workdays that defends big business interests.
While those at the top appear more and more united, those at the bottom continue to maintain illusions of a change that will not come and the few organized sectors in the public sector are the prey of a ruling bureaucracy incapable of channeling any struggle.
In the immediate future, it is urgent that the few organized sectors step forward, presenting an agenda whose immediate priority must be the fight against the 4X3 days. For this, it must be clearly explained that false illusions cannot be harbored in Rodrigo Chaves and that the only way to change things is the organized struggle of the working class that fights the lies of the government and stands up to the great projects of the bourgeoisie.
