What is Cuba?
The Cuban revolution of 1959 was a benchmark of rebellion and dignity for millions of people in Latin America, but the revolution was bureaucratized, a one-party Stalinist regime was imposed on the island very early, with omnipresent state security.

As in the former USSR and in China, capitalism was restored by the leadership of the communist parties. In Cuba the main means of production: tourism, remittances, free zones, nickel companies, etc. They are in the hands of European imperialism and GAESA, the economic consortium of the Cuban military. As in Nicaragua, in Cuba the old revolutionary leadership today is the heart of a new capitalist dynasty.
The Broad Front continues to defend the Cuban military-capitalist dictatorship
On July 26, a debate took place in the Legislative Assembly. The FA had organized a Forum for the Cuban ambassador to propaganda about his regime. The right wing, led by the PLP, presented a motion calling for the release of the political prisoners. It is unnecessary to point out the hypocrisy of the PLP, which condemns the Cuban dictatorship, but which goes to all the activities of the Chinese, Saudi, Emirates and Zionist State of Israel dictatorships. PLP’s defense of “democracy” is a joke.
The FA responded with the usual Stalinist arguments, deputy Rocío Alfaro maintained that the resolution was “interventionist” and that all the ills in Cuba were the fault of the economic bloc.
The reality of repression
The PT is against the blockade of Cuba, we find it harmful and absurd, but the protests against the Cuban regime have nothing to do with the Blockade.
The truth is that the popular mobilizations that shook Cuba on June 11, 2021 were mobilizations against precariousness, against rising prices, and against the shortage of medicines and food. The Cuban people suffered the weight of the pandemic crisis and the Cuban government supported and maintained investments in mega hotels.
The Cuban government’s response to the protests has been brutal, hundreds of people have been arrested and/or exiled for their political ideas, in addition to numerous summary and spurious processes. The repression of the regime had clear racist, sexist, homophobic and transphobic characteristics, it was concentrated with particular force against black people, women and sexually diverse people. Political freedoms, opinion and procedural guarantees were violated in a thousand and one ways.
All these complaints are documented. Therefore, the fight for the release of political prisoners is a fight that must be supported by the political left and people with democratic values throughout Latin America.
The Broad Front is filled with opprobrium and does a disservice to the forces of the left and the popular sectors by going out to defend the business-military dictatorship of Díaz Canel, with this vote it brings water to the mill of the most elementary anti-communism.
