What is happening with the transfer of Kostas Fortounis to Al Khalij, following reports from Saudi Arabia.
The transfer of Kostas Fortounis is up in the air. Reports from Saudi Arabia indicated that Al Khalij did not receive approval for the additional budget from the relevant ministry, and it seems that the case of the 31-year-old attacking midfielder is heading towards a failure.
As things stand, Fortounis’s transfer to the team, whose coach is Donis, has not been definitively called off. Indeed, 12 out of 18 teams have not received approval for additional budgets, which are channeled into transfers of foreign players, as they depend on state funds and do not have sponsors.
Therefore, in order to release the funds, they either need to receive approval or – in the negative scenario – find sponsorship. Al Khalij, in its case, is trying to save money from the existing contracts to cover Fortounis’s contract.
It is worth noting that the Middle Eastern club is offering Fortounis a closed two-year contract, which, along with bonuses, will provide the former player of Olympiakos with an amount exceeding 6,000,000 euros.
Finally, we must emphasize that there is also the factor of Kostas Fortounis himself, that is, how long the Greek player will wait for the Saudis to find a solution before seeking another option for his future.
