The Cameroon Oil Transportation Company (COTCO) has a change of boss. A few hours after the appointment of Bako Harouna as head of SONARA, Martial Valéry Zang has just been promoted to general director of the public company specializing in the transport of hydrocarbons.

The ball of appointments continues in the strategic hydrocarbon sector in Cameroon. A few hours after the appointment of magistrate Bako Harouna to take over the reins of SONARA, it is the turn of COTCO to choose a new strong man.

A profile familiar with oil issues

The choice therefore fell on Martial Valéry Zang, until then president of the Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation (CTR) of public companies in difficulty.

This 52-year-old senior state official has the ideal profile to manage a structure as sensitive as COTCO, which manages the transport of refined products across the country via a network of oil pipelines.

A specialist in oil issues, Martial Valéry Zang will have his work cut out to restore this company, which has been weakened for several years by the paralysis of SONARA.

The difficult succession of Bako Harouna

Above all, Martial Valéry Zang will have the difficult task of making people forget his predecessor Bako Harouna, who has achieved solid results at the head of COTCO for 3 years.

Under his leadership, this parapublic company managed to return to profit, which contrasted with the setbacks experienced by most other state companies in the sector.

In the 2021 financial year alone, COTCO achieved a turnover of 406 billion and a pre-tax profit of 20 billion FCFA. Enough to make the new strong man of the company, expected around the corner, dizzy.
