Calendula, from the evergreen family, is found in temperate climates throughout the northern hemisphere, particularly on nutrient-poor and moist soils. The white cotton ball-like “heads” are not flowers, but the fertile stage of the sometimes widespread plants, known by many local names (e.g. wild cotton, bed feathers, dog’s hair, and more) . They are especially amazing when the wind is playing with them.
