Udumalai: In the vicinity of Udumalai, BAP, for the fourth zone irrigation, is undergoing extensive flushing work on the widely cultivated cotton crop. For a variety of reasons, cotton has fetched good prices from the start of the current season. Currently harvested cotton is being sold by farmers in the Udumalai area to the Mulanur Regulatory Auction Hall. At this week’s auction, the first grade quintal of cotton sold for 13,399 rupees, the second grade for 11,250 rupees and the average for 12,550 rupees. For the first time this season, cotton was selling at a maximum price of Rs 13,399. Thus, the farmers are happy. As prices have risen, stockholders are also preparing to sell.
