Could the Next Apple Watch Feature Battery-Saving Location Tracking Like the iPhone?

Thanks to the latest models and updates, devices like the iPhone can be located even when they have no battery left, as there is always a minimal percentage remaining, and since this mode consumes very little energy, they can turn into an “AirTag” so we can find them if we’ve lost them recently.

However, the Apple Watch does not have this function, so if someone finds it and turns it off, or it simply runs out of battery (which happens often, as its battery life isn’t very long), we would be unable to locate it, and this is a significant problem. But why doesn’t Apple include this feature in the watches?

Find My on a turned-off Apple Watch?

One of the most common features of the Apple Watch is the ability to view the time even when it is completely turned off, implying that, like the iPhone, it retains some battery. This is something most devices do to try to extend their battery life.

This leads us to think that the next Apple Watch model could, or we hope it would, include this feature, as often we don’t know where we’ve left the watch, and just lasting a few hours with this function—rather than days like the iPhone—would be sufficient.

It is worth noting that a simple button battery, with much less capacity than the Apple Watch, can power an AirTag for between 12 and 24 months, so even 1% of battery in this could give us several days of use. However, in my case, as I said, I think just a few hours would even be enough for most times we need to use it.

For now, there aren’t even any rumors about this, but it is a very feasible option that any employee involved in the development of the new Apple Watches could have mentioned, as I don’t find its implementation that unusual. It would be an extra feature to highlight as a novelty, especially since we won’t see many new features in the Series X, and that would prevent most of us from changing our model until at least the 11, which we expect to be a revolution.

Among the changes that could occur next year are the glucose sensor, blood pressure monitor, or Touch ID on the screen; however, these are things I don’t see as very clear. On paper, they are extremely interesting, and we have been hearing about them for years, although it is likely that at some point we will see a significant change. For now, just including this feature would already be something worth highlighting.

And you, how do you view this feature? Would you care if your Apple Watch turned off at 1% before if it offers you the option to pay or locate it without having battery? Even if it is just for a few hours, and not necessarily for a few days.
