Countdown to Change: Greece’s Winter Time Transition Set for October 27, 2024

by time news

Time Change in 2024 will take place on the last Sunday of October, specifically on 27/10. With this time change, the second one in 2024, clocks will start showing winter time. The day will become even shorter, with the night extending. The question of “why the time changes” and (mainly) why this specific practice continues – that is, turning the clocks back – remains unanswered. Europe is one of the last regions on the planet where the “back and forth” of clock hands continues.

The relevant decision to stop this practice was made before the coronavirus pandemic. However, the pandemic put the European Parliament’s decision on time change on hold, according to which member states would choose whether to keep summer or winter time. This was followed by the war in Ukraine, and the issue has been postponed indefinitely. It should be noted that in our country, the time change was first implemented on a trial basis from July 6, 1932, until September 1 of the same year, with clocks moving one hour ahead.

In the coming weeks, the relevant ministerial decision for the time change in 2024 is expected. Specifically, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport will announce that the time will change normally on October 27, the last Sunday of the month, with clocks moving back at 04:00 in the morning to show 03:00 and start winter time. It is noteworthy that the 2024 time change falls within the last three-day weekend of the year: that of October 28. Therefore, it is an ideal opportunity for more relaxation and an additional hour of sleep.
