Counting of last votes in Sweden ongoing

by time news

Three days after the exciting parliamentary elections in Sweden, the final votes are being counted. By this afternoon, around 98 percent of the constituencies had been provisionally counted. Initially, nothing changed in the close race between the two political camps, as figures on the electoral authority’s website show.

The conservative-right four-party bloc including the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats continued to get 175 seats, the left-wing camp of the incumbent Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson got 174. A provisional final result is expected in the evening.

Election crime continues

Sweden experienced a thrilling election thriller on Sunday. The race between the two camps was so close that the electoral authorities did not announce a preliminary result during the night. First she wanted to count postal votes cast late and votes from Swedes from abroad.

These votes are now gradually being included in the evaluation. Andersson’s Social Democrats, traditionally the strongest force in Sweden, had 30.4 percent of the vote at around 3:30 p.m. The Sweden Democrats followed in second place with 20.6 percent, which would mean a record result for the right-wing populist party of chairman Jimmie Akesson. For the first time, they would also overtake Kristersson’s moderates, who were 19.1 percent, as the second strongest force.
