The Ministry of the Interior reported on the actions that the government has been carrying out to receive the winter season; taking into account the vulnerability of the country.

“One of the new institutions, which has been modernized and which was created two years ago is the Directorate of Shelters, we can guarantee that the attention is decent, something that we did not look at before,” said the president of the National Civil Protection Commission, Juan Carlos Bidegan.

The official explained that they have 86 shelters available and equipped but they expect to reach 150. In addition, the Fire Department has been working on the tops of trees, totaling 73 intervened and the Operational Tactical Teams have 192. They have carried out 64 monitoring and 106 inspections in vulnerable areas throughout the year.

Meanwhile, the director of Civil Protection, Luis Alonso Amaya, stressed that they remain deployed in the most vulnerable areas, highlighting that the Emergency Operations Center (COE), which operates 365 days a year, is one of the samples that the Civil Protection Directorate is now much more operational.

“We are at the gates of a new rainy season, with this we begin to implement a series of actions that we have been developing prior to the season and we are going to strengthen them much more. We have been developing actions such as the cleaning of dikes and ravines, it is up to us, to focus on the prevention of urban floods”, said Amaya.

The official added that supplies and kits were delivered to community commissions in March and pointed out that the work with both municipal, departmental and community commissions is key to having much more scope and operability.
