In 2004, two men stormed into a bank branch in Gries in the Sellrain Valley in Tyrol and stole almost 19,000 euros. A Moldovan (38) who was caught in March now has to pay for his “sinful youth” and is behind bars.

It was September 8, 2004: At around 8:30 a.m., two criminals masked with motorcycle helmets stormed into the Raika branch in Gries im Sellrain, threatened the employee with a gas pistol, stole 18,605 euros and fled on a previously stolen scooter. While the handcuffs clicked for a perpetrator and two escape helpers on the same day, a then 19-year-old Moldovan and another guard managed to escape. Arrested in Romania But the two did not get away scot-free either: while the helper was caught in 2021 and convicted a little later , the Moldovan arrested in Romania in March was in court on Tuesday. “I never would have thought that this youthful sin would catch up with me again after such a long time,” the accused showed remorse nothing left for a long time. The helper got 1,600 euros, and a “bad Russian” apparently got 5,000 euros for his accomplice. “I squandered the rest with carousel rides in Vienna’s Prater and I put it into my wedding,” said the 38-year-old. Judgment not yet final The Moldovan now has to pay this to the state. He immediately filed a criminal appeal.
