Asha Bhosle is a legendary musician of the Indian subcontinent. The 91-year-old artist is still seen at various events. Asha Bhosle attended an interview program with spiritual leader Ravi Shankar a few days ago.
In this conversation, Ravi Shankar wants to know from Asha Bhosal the reasons for falling in love, breaking up and getting divorced in the current generation. Talking about the matter, the singer brought up her personal life.
Asha Bhosle said that she used to have problems with her husband RD Burman. He used to get annoyed with this. But if it was too much, he would get angry and go to his mother. But the thought of divorce never came to his mind.
At that time, Asha Bhosle asked Ravi Shankar a question and said, ‘Nowadays I hear that couples send divorce letters every month. Gurudev, why is this happening?’ In response to this question, Ravi Shankar said, ‘You are making everyone happy by singing. You have faith in the Creator, you have the strength to endure hardships and overcome problems. But today’s people do not have the ability to bear suffering.’
Asha Bhosle commented that the current generation takes drastic measures quickly. According to him- ‘I have spent most of my life in this film industry, seen many people. I have never seen the current generation take drastic action so quickly. I think they fall in love with each other quickly and they get bored quickly. Perhaps, because of this, the divorce rate has increased.’ Agreeing with Asha Bhosle’s statement, Ravi Shankar said, ‘Nowadays attraction has surpassed love.’
Criticizing the women of that time, Asha Bhosle said, ‘Today’s women consider bearing children a burden. Perhaps, this is a reality in the lower classes as well as the middle and upper classes. I started working as a playback singer at the age of 10. I had three children. Raised them, married them, now have grandchildren. I managed all this successfully single handedly without my husband. I did this when I was busy with professional work. At that time I worked day and night.’
Asha Bhosle first married elder sister Lata Mangeshkar’s secretary Ganapatrao Bhosle. At that time he was 16 years old and Ganpat was 31 years old. This family broke up in 1960. Asha married singer RD Burman in 1980. Asha Bhosle’s second husband RD Burman died in 1994.
