Court arrested fraudsters suspected of stealing money from WWII veteran

The Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow has arrested for two months two suspects of fraud against the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Vasily Pronin, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs Media with reference to the official representative of the ministry, Irina Volk.

“Today, the Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow granted the petition of the head of the specialized department for the investigation of crimes of general criminal orientation … to choose a preventive measure for those accused of fraud against the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Vasily Pronin,” she said.

On May 29, the fraudster called the 96-year-old pensioner and introduced himself as a law enforcement officer. He convinced the veteran to withdraw 400 thousand rubles from the bank account. and transfer them to a third party. The swindler said that it was allegedly needed to arrest the swindler red-handed.

The police opened a criminal case under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud committed using one’s official position, as well as on a large scale”). During searches in the homes of the suspects, the police seized communication equipment, bank cards, money and other evidence.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs did not rule out that other citizens could also suffer from the actions of fraudsters.
