Chennai: The Madras High Court has banned four music distribution companies from using songs composed by music director Ilayaraja. The order was issued on a petition filed by Ilayaraja stating that the contract with these companies had expired.

Earlier, the single-judge bench had dismissed the petition. Echo, Time.news Music, Unisex and Giri Trading were banned in the petition. Ilayaraja argued before the division bench that the single bench dismissed the petition without considering the copyright law. He explained that this caused him great loss.

Ordered to send notice seeking clarification from concerned music distribution companies. The petition will be considered again on March 21.

A few years ago, Ilayaraja came on the scene demanding royalties for using his songs for concerts and stage shows.

A close friend, S.P. Ilayaraja had also sent a notice to Balasubramaniam. Ilayaraja wants to get royalties if he sings his song for paid events.
