The High Risk B judge, Eva Recinos, granted a substitute measure on Tuesday to former president Otto Pérez Molina, who is implicated in the case called TCQ and with this ruling he could be released from prison. In addition, a bond of Q300 thousand was imposed.

Perspective Writing

Pérez Molina, who has been in prison since 2015, asked the Court for the possibility of obtaining a substitute measure within the State Cooptation case and that an economic bond not be imposed on him since he does not have the money to pay it. However, Recinos did impose a bail on the former official so that he can be released from prison.

If the amount is paid, the judge indicated that Molina will have house arrest, will sign or put his fingerprint on a minute book every 30 days and will not be able to visit prisons.

With this decision, Pérez Molina could be released from prison, since he maintains the same benefit in force in the La Línea case, which means that he could remain free until he knows if his sentence is final or not.

Pérez was president of Guatemala between 2012 and 2015, when his government succumbed to the La Línea case, this occurred a few months before the end of his term, so he is awaiting the resolution of his process.
